We are trying something new and exciting this year – the Alaska Kidney Patients Association (AKPA) will be doing FREE Kidney Health Screening at the Anchorage Health & Wellness Expo on Saturday, April 8th & Sunday, April 9th, 2017. We need volunteers like you to make it happen.
Volunteer Days:
- Saturday, April 8th & Sunday, April 9th
Volunteer Hours:
- 9:30 am to 5:00 pm both days
Where:
Health Fair at Women's Wellness Expo
Egan Center, 555 W 5th Ave., Anchorage
Below is a description of the ‘types’ of volunteers we need and the shifts available.
Clinical consultants to review participant’s results with them (information is provided to assist with this). A clinical consultant can be a M.D., P.A., or N.P. or a Diabetes Educator.
Available Shifts Saturday 4/8/2017:
- 9:30am to 1:30pm
- 11:30am to 3:30pm
- 1:30pm to 5:00pm
Available Shifts Sunday 4/9/2017:
- 9:30am to 1:30pm
- 11:30am to 3:30pm
- 1:30pm to 5:00pm
Technical volunteer (nurses, medical assistants, or technicians): check weight, height and blood pressure.

- 11:30am to 3:30pm
- 1:30pm to 5:00pm

- 9:30am to 1:30pm

General volunteer (non-medical, but detailed oriented) support might include any or all of the following: registration, assist with the paperwork of participants, assist with logging info in the lab log, or helping with the information station. Those with an eye for detail and enjoy working with a variety of people are encouraged to participate.

Dress is casual, coffee and snacks will be served, you will be provided with a map to the Egan Center and a list of suggested parking spots.
The FREE Kidney Health Screenings are for individuals who are at increased risk for kidney disease – those with high blood pressure, diabetes and those with an immediate family member with kidney disease. Almost 67% of Alaskans currently on dialysis experienced kidney failure because of diabetes or high blood pressure.
