On June 15th, 2018, U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced a bipartisan bill that would improve access to care for diabetic patients who require therapetic shoes call the "Promoting Access to Diabetic Shoes Act." The legislation would provide patients of nurse practitioners as well as physician assistants access to diabetic shoes by allowing these providers to certify their need for this treatment without the need to refer to a physician.
